Prof. MMag. Dr. Rolf Laven
Rolf Laven, born in 1966 in Jülich/Rhineland, Germany, is a German-Austrian visual artist, sculptor, art educator, curator, artistic researcher and university professor based in Vienna. He studied sculpture and art education at the Academies of Fine Arts in Maastricht/Netherlands and Vienna/Austria and earned his PhD with a dissertation on Franz ÄŒižek (the Father of Art Education) and the pioneering Vienna Juvenile Art Class. Moving between studio, university and public space, Laven connects artistic practice with education, research and social engagement. Sculpture and installation form the core of his artistic work, while participation, co-creation and encounters with communities continually expand his practice. As an artist, educator, workshop leader and freelance curator, he creates spaces for experimentation and exchange – places where art is not simply viewed, but made, shared, questioned and experienced. His work crosses boundaries: art meets education, research meets practice, and individual creativity meets collective action.
